Cottage Garden Mosaic Commission

Bespoke artwork created from stained glass, fused glass and ceramic
"Cottage Garden" by China Petals

If you follow China Petals on social media you may have seen little snippets of this special mosaic coming to life but this is the first time I have shown it in all it's finished glory.

This colourful mosaic was commissioned by a lovely couple, Angie and Graham, who were after something special to display in their garden. This article is Angie's story of how it came about and what made her choose China Petals for this sentimental piece of art.

Angie's Story

During the first lockdown I started going to lots of online craft fairs and handmade sites on Facebook. China Petals caught my eye when Diane did a talk from her studio where she mentioned using clients sentimental china in mosaic. This got me thinking about my mum's old china tea service maybe something could be made with that. In the meantime I bought a mirrored Stag Head that Diane was donating a percentage of the sale to her favourite charity (Headway). When the Stag arrived I fell in love, it was stunning and you could see the work and attention to detail that had gone into it and it had me hooked.

I was turning 60 this year and my partner wanted to get me something special. We were having our garden relayed with Indian stone and I decided I wanted a cottage garden mosaic as part of the new garden layout. I contacted Diane about my idea and we had several video chats to discuss ideas. I asked Diane to include a black cat (my mum always thought they were lucky), a robin (I saw one when my dad passed away and they always seem to be there when I need him). We both love hares and owls, and snowdrops are my favourite flowers. I sent my mums china to Diane as I wanted this included as part of the mosaic too.

Every week Diane would send us update photos to make sure we were happy and if we wanted to make any changes but we never did, it was like she knew what I wanted. Diane used the flowers from my mums china as cherry blossom on the branch that the robin was sitting on which was so fitting. When it finally arrived I was blown away, there was so much attention to detail. So much more stunning in person and with many sentimental memories. My partner loves it too and it's the best present I could ever have hoped for. We can see it from the patio doors when inside which is lovely.

As a special touch Diane made me a heart from my mum's remaining china which I have hung under my parents picture in the living room.

After watching the TV programme 'Where the Art is' I've always wanted to commission my own piece of art and Diane from China Petals has certainly lived up to my expectations.

I would definitely recommend Diane 200% - from a very happy customer - Angie.'

I hope you have enjoyed reading Angie's story and seeing the finished photos of her special mosaic. If you would like to commission your own mosaic for indoors or outdoors get in touch, I am always happy to chat through ideas and what can be possible.
